Surname Saturday

Surname Saturday – Blott (England)

At this stage, I only have the one person in my tree with this surname – Elizabeth BLOTT, born circa 1774.

My ancestral line is:

1 Lois Whimpey

2 Ivon Walter Whimpey 1923-2009
3 Edith Jean Marr 1922-1990

6 Wilfred Palmer Marr 1892-1955
7 Edith Meriden Docwra 1904-1948

14 Harry Docwra 1866-1934
15 Emily Alice Oliver 1877-1925

30 George Oliver 1846-1930
31 Elizabeth Ann Ball 1856-1909

60 Frederick Oliver 1824-1855
61 Susannah Campkin 1827-1880

120 Sylvester Oliver 1805-1879
121 Mary Ann Burgess 1806-1872

240 Henry Oliver ca. 1762-1833
241 Elizabeth BlottElizabeth was born about 1774.  No baptism record has been found for her yet.  She married Henry Oliver on 14 December 1794 in Meldreth, Cambridgeshire, England.  One of the witnesses to the marriage was a John Blott.  This may have been Elizabeth’s brother.  Elizabeth and Henry Oliver had four children:

  • Henry christened 21 May 1797 at Meldreth
  • Charlotte christened 5 July 1799 at Meldreth
  • Sarah born 10 May 1801 christened 4 July 1805 at Melbourn
  • Silvester born 20 May 1805 christened 4 July 1805 at Melbourn

There is a burial record for an Elizabeth Oliver, age 40, on 5 Jun 1814 at Melbourn, Cambridgeshire.  Since this would have been about how old Elizabeth nee Blott was, I believe this was her burial entry.

Although I haven’t been able to find a baptism record for Elizabeth, I did find a Blott family at Abington Pigotts, which is not far from Melbourn/Meldreth.

Baptisms:

1769 May 14 Blott John son of Willm & Sarah

1773 May 30 Blott Ester [BT Easter] dau of William & Sarah

1775 Dec 3 Blott Sarah dau of William & Sarah

1778 Dec 5 Blott John son of William & Sarah

I also have another Blott that I have tentatively linked to my family – Mary BLOTT. Mary married Simon Quy on 12 October 1771 at Litlington.  More information on this family can be found on my post 52 Ancestors #22 Elizabeth Quy.
