Surname Saturday – Campion (England)

I have one person in my tree with the surname Campion: Anne Campion.  Campion is also an alternate spelling of the surname Campkin.  I will be looking at my Campkin family next week.

1811 Anne Campion (ca. 1650-1708) Anne Campion was born about 1650.  A baptism record has not yet been found for her.  Anne married Richard Gayler on 12 September 1676 at Great Eversden, Cambridgeshire, England.  On the marriage entry, Richard’s surname was listed as Galer.  He was “otp” (of this parish).  Anne was “of Potton”.  They were married by licence.

Anne died in 1708, and she was buried 1 March 1708 at Great Eversden.  The burial entry lists her as Gayler Anne, wife of Richard.

Richard and Anne had 4 children:

  • Elizabeth baptised 15 July 1676 at Great Eversden. Elizabeth married Simeon Leete
  • Richard baptised 22 Feb 1679 at Great Eversden
  • Thomas baptised 18 Mar 1681 at Great Eversden
  • John baptised 14 Apr 1687 at Great Eversden
