The first person in my tree with this surname is Susannah (Susan) Coe (1761-1839).

123 Rebecca Pewter 1792-1843
246 William Pewter 1763-1834
247 Susannah (Susan) Coe 1761-1839. Before today, I had very little information about Susannah. I had the name Susan as the mother of Rebecca Pewter, and I had found a banns entry in the Melbourn Parish Register transcripts on CD (from the Cambridgeshire Family History Society) for William Pewter and Susannah Coe.
Oct 9 Pewter Wm bac otp
Coe Susanna sp of Haslingfield
So, today I decided to do some research to find more information about her. The first record I found was the marriage entry for William Peuter and Susannah Coe at Haslingfield, on 13 November 17911. The next record I found was the baptism for Susan Coe on 20 September 1761 in Orwell, Cambridgeshire2.
There is a death entry in 1839 for a Susannah Pewter in the Royston district (Oct-Nov-Dec quarter vol 6 page 381), and I found a corresponding burial in the Melbourn Parish Register transcripts on CD (from the Cambridgeshire Family History Society):
1839 Oct 18 Pewter Susannah otp 78
Her age at the time of her burial matches the baptism in 1761 in Orwell, and Orwell is the next parish to the south east of Haslingfield. This indicated that these records all belonged to my Susan.
The next thing to try to find was the marriage for Susan’s parents, Samuel and Susan Coe. A search at FamilySearch uncovered other children for Samuel and Susan, but not the marriage. I then tried Freereg, and found the marriage of Samuel Coe and Susan Jeape in St Andrew Parish, Orwell, Cambridgeshire on 2 November 17603
I then found a baptism of a Samuel Coe on 11 October 1732 at All Saints, Croydon cum Clopton, Cambridgeshire. His father was Ambroze Coe4. I have not yet been able to find a marriage or baptism entry for Ambroze, so I haven’t been able to go back any further on this line at this stage. I did find some other baptism entries in Croydon cum Clopton which indicate that Ambroze’s wife’s name was Ann (Angel Coe, christened 14 Sep 1735, Ambras Coo, christened Jan 1741/2)
