Sunday afternoon Genealogy Fun

My ex-husband’s ancestors age at death

For the last two weeks for my Sunday Afternoon Genealogy Fun posts, I have done posts about my female and male ancestors ages at death. Since one of the reasons I am doing the family history is for my children, I have decided to do a post about their father’s ancestors age at death as well.

I have more gaps in the information on this side of the family. For one thing, my ex-husband’s grandfather Albert George Casey was illegitimate – at the time of his birth his mother was a widow, and no father is listed on his birth certificate. Both Albert’s death and marriage certificates list his mother’s husband, Thomas Casey, as his father, but Thomas died (in 1897) before Albert was born (in 1901).

Also, my ex-husband has branches of the family from Ireland, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. Even for those I have found christening records for, I have been unable to find death records for them yet.

However, from the information I have found, it appears that his side of the family lived longer than mine.

In the females, the shortest lived was Mary Ann Hayes, at about 27 years. The shortest lived in the males was Thomas Smith (1813-1842), aged 28 years.

The oldest female was Alice Cooper, who died aged 96 years, and the oldest male was James Smith (1841-1938), aged 97 years.

The average age for females was 72.23 years, and for males, 67.95 years.

This is the breakdown of the average ages per generation:
Parent

Mother age 77
Father age 33

Grandparents

Female average 78.5 range from 74 to 83
Male average 60 range from 57 to 63

Great grandparents

Female average 67.25 range from 53 to 88
Male average 72 range from 61 to 79

So, in my husband’s side of the family, the females did, on average, live longer than the males.

The following graph compares the ages at death on his side of the family, and my side of the family.
