Surname Saturday – Wimpey

Wimpey is a variation of my maiden surname Whimpey.  I covered my ancestors back to William Whimpey in my post for the surname Whimpey, and this week, I will be covering the earlier generations.

In summary, my ancestral line is:

1 Lois Whimpey

2 Ivon Walter Whimpey (1923-2009)

4 John Ernest Whimpey (1884-1960)

8 Joseph Whimpey (1848-1919)

16 Joseph Whimpey (1819-1902)

32 William Whimpey (1789-1860)

64 Joseph Wimpey (1761-1790)
65 Rebekah Dredge (1760-1844)

Joseph was christened 29 August 1761 at St John the Baptist Parish, Frome, Somerset, England.  He was the youngest child of John Wimpey and Susanna Curtis.

  • Joseph W(h)impey (1784-1865)
  • Susanna Wimpey (1785-1794)

  • William W(h)impey (1789-1860)
  • Edward W(h)impey (1790-1862)

(I have used the brackets to indicate they were christened with the surname Wimpey, but used the variation Whimpey latest in life)

Joseph was buried 8 February 1790 at Frome.
