Last week, I featured articles I found for Alfred Owen Briggs, and his wife. This week, I decided to look for articles for his parents, Thomas Briggs and Elizabeth Sharp – Elizabeth was my great grandmother’s sister.
I was unable to find any articles for Elizabeth. Since Thomas Briggs is a common name, I decided to limit my search to articles in the Bendigo Advertiser.
The first article I found was about his death:

SUDDEN DEATH
A man named Thomas Briggs, who resided with his son and daughter at No. 2 Vine-street, was found dead in bed yesterday morning. Deceased, who was 68 years of age, had been under the care of Dr. T. E. Green, who gave a certificate that death was due to heart failure.
Elizabeth Briggs, nee Sharp, had died in 1881, and Thomas remarried in 1884. This is the marriage notice.

I also found an article about Thomas’ move from Woodstock to Sandhurst (Bendigo).

I then found the death notice for Mary Eugenie Briggs

The marriage notice had mentioned that Mary was the relict of the late R. E. Lutey of the Union Hotel, Hargreaves Street. In 1889, Thomas Briggs transferred the licence to Mary Wills.
