The census records had shown that Thomas Prout and Elizabeth Clement Whimpey had a daughter Fanny, born about 1863. I hadn’t found her baptism when I found the baptisms for the rest of the family, so I tried searching for a Fanny, born in 1863, in St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands. Her entry had been indexed as Pront
Ancestry.com Operations Inc, “Jersey, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1915,” database and images, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com.au/ : accessed 27 Jan 2017); baptism entry for Fanny LeSecur(?) Prout, 11 February 1863, St Helier, Jersey; Jersey Heritage; St Helier, Jersery; Jersey Parish Registers; Reference Number: G/C/03/A2/17.
Her marriage was also indexed under Pront: Fanny LeSeueur Prout married John Goodenough on 14 Jan 1891 at St Lukes, Jersey
The 1901 Channel Islands Census shows John Goodenough, age 43, and Fanny Goodenough, age 36, with children Ernest Goodenough age 7, Elsie Goodenough age 5, and Maud Goodenough age 2
At the time of the 1911 census, the family were living at 5 Windsor Road, St Heliers, Jersey
I was then able to find baptisms for the three children:
- Ernest Goodenough, birth 19 Aug 1893, baptism 16 Sep 1893 at St Helier, Jersey, father John Goodenough mother Fanny Le Sueuer
- Elsie Emily Goodenough, birth 27 Dec 1895, baptism 12 Feb 1896 at St Helier, Jersey, father John Goodenough, mother Fanny Prout
- Maud Goodenough, birth 15 Oct 1898, baptism 23 Nov 1898 at St Helier, Jersey, father John Goodenough, mother Fanny Prout
Fanny Prout, widow of John Goodenough, died 24 March 1930, and was buried 26 March 1930 at All Saints, St Helier, Jersey.
While I was looking for the death or burial for John, I found a burial for Ernest Goodenough, age 29, on 4th December 1922 at St Andrews, St Helier. He had died 30 November 1922 in Hospital.
Fanny’s death entry shows she was the widow of John Goodenough, so he died before 1930. A Public Member Tree has a date of death of 30 October 1918. I haven’t been able to find his burial record yet.
I haven’t been able to find a marriage or death entry for Elsie, but I did find the marriage for Maud:
Maud Goodenough, age 24 (born about 1899) married John Patrick Mahoney on 12 September 1923 at St Helier. Her father was John George Goodenough.
I didn’t find a burial for Maud, but since the deaths and burials only go up to 1940, Maud probably died after 1940.
