Because it has been difficult to decide who to write about each week, I’ve decided to work through the family systematically. The first person is therefore my dad, Ivon Walter Whimpey.
When I searched for “Ivon Whimpey” (in quotation marks) there were only 2 results, so I decided to expand to search for Ivon Whimpey (without quotation marks).
First, there was the engagement for my dad and his first wife, Joyce Lillian O’Neill
Followed by the announcement of their upcoming marriage.
Joyce died in 1948. Her death notice was in both The Argus and The Age.
Joyce’s death and funeral notices were also in The Sun, which is not available online yet.
From The Sun Wednesday May 19 1948

Whimpey, of 63 Brown-St, Heidelberg, and loving mother of
Merilyn and Jennifer. Aged 27 years.

Mum and dad announced their engagement in May 1952
Mum and dad were married in December 1952, but I couldn’t find a marriage notice for them. It may have been in The Sun, which is not available online yet.
Although birth notices are available for my sisters, since they’re still alive, I have not included them. I’ve only included the notice for Lynda, who died aged 4 months.
According to Wikipedia, the final edition of the Argus was on 19 January 1957.
To finish out this post, I am providing a transcription of Lynda’s funeral notice, which was in The Sun
From The Sun Sat June 1 1957
