Surname Saturday – Laver (Lavor)

The first ancestor in my tree with this surname was Caroline Elizabeth Florence Laver.  Caroline was my ex-husband’s great grandmother:

13. Caroline Elizabeth Florence Laver (1872-1934)

Known as Florence, she was born 30 December 1872 in Inkerman Street, St Kilda in the Colony of Victoria.

Florence married Thomas Casey on 20 August 1890 at Highbury House, Blyth Street, Brunswick.  They had four children:

  • Adelaide Agnes Casey (1890-1894)
  • Thomas Edward Casey (1891-1893)
  • Mabel Annie Casey (1893-1893)
  • Beatrice Emily Casey (1897-1971)

Thomas Casey died 14 January 1897 at the Melbourne Hospital, and Florence then had another son.

  • Albert George Casey (1901-1965)

Florence died 24 September 1934 at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville, Victoria, Australia. She was buried at the Boroondara Cemetery in Kew, on 26 September 1934.

26. Thomas Laver (1840-1919)
27. Eliza Hooton (1842-1906)

Thomas was born about 1840 and christened 14 February 1841 at Kingsbury Episcopi, Somerset, England.

He married Eliza Hooton on 6 February 1864 at a private house in Black Street, Brighton, in the colony of Victoria.   Thomas and Eliza had 7 children:

  • John George Laver (1865-1865)
  • Emily Jane Laver (1866-1938)
  • Selina Laver (1868-1869)
  • William Henry Charles Laver (1870-1872)
  • Eva Annie Laver (1871-1905)
  • Caroline Elizabeth Florence Laver (1872-1934)
  • Thomas Ernest Laver (1879-1932)

After Eliza died in 1906, Thomas married Winifred Waters Whitlock on 31 July 1906 at Hope Street, West Brunswick. They had no children.

Thomas died 28 July 1919 at the Hospital for Insane in Kew, and was buried at the Boroondara Cemetery on 30 July 1919.

52. George Laver (1819-1885)
53. Elizabeth Male (1818-1897)

George Laver was born about 1819, and christened 3 September 1820 at the Old Meeting Presbyterian church in South Petherton, Somerset, England.

He married Elizabeth Male on 7 July 1840 at Kingsbury Epsicopi, Somerset, England, and they had 4 children:

  • Thomas Laver (1840-1919)
  • Jane Laver (1843-1923)
  • William Laver (1845-1876)
  • Louisa Laver (1846-1937)

George died 10 August 1885 at St Kilda in the Colony of Victoria, and was buried 11 August 1885 at the St Kilda Cemetery.

John Laver was born about 1790 and christened 28 March 1792 at South Petherton, Somerset, England.

He married Sarah Duck on 26 April 1818 at South Petherton, and they had 7 children:

Samuel was christened 7 July 1764 at South Petherton, Somerset, England.

He married Susanna Hebditch on 4 September 1788 at South Petherton, and they had 9 children:

John Laver was christened 30 October 1722 at South Petherton, Somerset, England.

He married Elizabeth Wills on 17 April 1750 at South Petherton, and they had 9 children:

There were two possible baptisms for John in South Petherton:

John Lavor son of John baptized 19 May 1686
John Lavor son of Samuel baptized 19 January 1688

Since I don’t know which one was for my John, I have not been able to trace this line any further back at this stage.

John Laver married Joan Axe on 13 June 1709 at South Petherton, and I have two children listed for them:

  • Samuel Laver (1710-?)
  • John Laver (1722-1799)

I don’t have burial details for John yet.
