The first ancestor in my tree with this surname was Mary O’Keefe. Her relationship to my ex-husband is:
Mary O’Keefe was born about 1801 in County Kerry, Ireland.
She married John Mansfield in Ireland, and they had 8 children:
- Matthew Mansfield (1829-aft 1891)
- Catherine Mansfield (1836-1923)
- Charles Mansfield (1839-1887)
- Mary Ann Mansfield, (1840-1919)
- John Mansfield (1842-1912)
- Dora Mansfield (1844-1913)
- Richard Mansfield (1850-?)
- Thomas Mansfield (1851-1889)
Mary died 13 November 1891 at Stawell Street, Sale, in the Colony of Victoria. She was buried 15 November 1891 at the Sale Cemetery. Her death certificate indicates she was 90 years old, and that she had been born in Kerry, Ireland. Her father’s surname was O’Keefe, but his given names and occupation were unknown, and her mother’s name was also unknown.
Although I have found baptism records for most of John Mansfield and Mary O’Keefe’s children, I have not found a baptism record for their eldest son Matthew, and I haven’t found a marriage record for John and Mary. There was a Mary O’Keefe who was baptized in 1806 in Tralee, but this record is from a Roman Catholic church, while the baptisms for John and Mary’s children were Church of Ireland baptisms. I have therefore not been able to take this line any further back than Mary.
