Alfred was christened 13 July 1824 at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, England. He was the base born son of Tempest Sell and Jane Docwra.
Alfred migrated to Australia in 1848, and he married Mary Scott in 1852.

He owned a cottage and land in Cavanagh Rd that he was renting to Mrs Grear(?)
He owned a bakery & store in Point Nepean Rd that he was renting to Ferdinand Musicker(?)
The 1869 rate book shows he was renting the house and land in Cavanagh Road, to Hennessey
The 1881 rate book shows that Alfred was the owner/occupier of 1 acre of land with a house with 4 rooms in Point Nepean Road. He was the owner of 2 acres of land which he was renting to his son Stephen Docwra, in Cavanagh Road.
In 1895, he was the owner of a 4-room brick house in Nepean Road, which he was renting to his son in law, James Parry.
Alfred died 2 June 1903 at his son in law, James Parry’s house in Thomas Street, Prahran. The 1903 directory shows Alfred was living at Point Nepean Road Cheltenham.
The directory shows that he was living on the east side, and between Centre Dandenong Road, and Chesterville Road
