52 Ancestors #20 Dorothea Isabella Sinclair Smith

Dorothea was born 3 June 1904 at Boisdale, Victoria, Australia. She was the eldest child of Thomas Smith and Louisa May Clyne[1].

Dorothea grew up in the Maffra area of Gippsland, and later the family moved to Winlaton[2].  The Electoral rolls show from 1925 to 1929 Dorothea Isabella Sinclair Smith was living at Winlaton Mystic Park and her occupation was home duties[3],[4].

Dorothea married Thomas Arthur Willis on 3 June 1929 at Eaglehawk East Methodist Church[5], and they lived on a wheat and sheep farm at Mystic Park[2].

When their son Murray married in 1955, they retired and went to live in Kerang[2]

Dorothea went on a world cruise in 1968.  Her passport shows she visited the following ports:

  • Aga 12 Feb 1968
  • Kobe Port 15 Feb 1968
  • London 21 March 1968
  • Belgium 27 March 1968
  • Arrived at Dover 18 Apr 1968
  • Embarked from Southampton 24 May 1968[6]

After returning to Australia, Dorothea continued to live at 33 Andrew Street Kerang until her death[7].

Dorothea died 6 May 1979 at the Kerang Hospital[8]. Her funeral service was held on 8 May 1979 at the Wesley Uniting Church in Kerang, and she was buried at the Kerang Cemetery[9].
