Genealogical Sites

There are 3 main websites that I use that contain record collections from around the world, and also guides to help you with your family history research.  They also have User submitted family trees.  These are FindMyPast, Ancestry and FamilySearch.  FindMyPast and Ancestry require a subscription for most of their record collections, while FamilySearch is free.

So, which subscription site should you use? I personally prefer Ancestry, but that may be because it was the site I started using when I first gained access to the internet, so I’m used to it.  I generally use FindMyPast when I can’t find a particular record at Ancestry.

Each week, I add a post for each of these websites, to list the new and updated record collections for that week.  These can be found by selecting the name of the website from the Categories section in the left side bar.  Some of the record collections are also included in my Record Collections by Region section.
